Summary

Riose is a pacifist who is a strong believer in solving problems through compassion and nonviolence. Unfortunately, his charisma is shit and everyone wants him dead.

Personality

Riose is a follower of Eilistraee and a bleeding heart pacifist, which ties into his necromancy - he sees utilizing the dead, whose souls have since moved on, as a way to preserve the lives of the living by allowing them to replace living fighters in events where combat can’t be avoided. He believes very strongly in protecting life, no matter how questionable the person is, unless killing is absolutely necessary.

Which is how he immediately got killed by a mindflayer. And then again by a vampire a few nights later. He's not deliberately trying to be self-sacrificing, he just keeps getting burned. His poor charisma means that despite his desperate commitment to pacifism, he inadvertently causes a lot of conflict. He's struggling.

Due to his background, he's a bit sheltered and idealistic. His religion's been a huge part of his life, and it takes conscious effort to not proselytize to people. He's aware his party largely finds him off-putting and is trying to strike a balance in being more palatable to them while still retaining his morals.

He's had a lot of fleeting relationships, mostly physical, but hasn't had any kind of serious romantic relationship. Despite his friendliness with his community, being half-human has given him a level of disconnect, especially as his drow father has never been interested in Eilistraee. He has no close friendships, and others tend to find him childish.

Backstory

Wip wip he has three parents - drow father, human mother, and human father.

Riose was heartened to see the way Wyll spoke with the tiefling children when they first met in the grove - his party up to that point had consisted of several cynics who were already growing tired of Riose. Even though he wasn't wild about the idea of hunting a devil, and they very quickly had a disagreement over Sazza, Riose is charmed and admires Wyll.

Riose recognizes Wyll's loneliness, and worries about him, especially after his transformation. The two grow close, seeing each other for their real selves instead of the ideals they try to embody. Eventually, they are essentially co-leaders. Each of their concern for the well-being of the other helps to offset their self-sacrificing tendencies. If they won't take care of themselves, at least they're happy to spoil each other.

Being used to fleeting, sexual relationships, Riose is taken aback by Wyll's courting. He finds it deeply sweet and is touched, but sometimes feels insecure and that he can't fill the role as the kind of partner Wyll deserves. The courtly romance inspires him, though, and he's prone to his own cheesy romantic gestures, wanting Wyll to also be taken care of himself. Between the two of them, things can get painfully cheesy.

Riose was surprised when he found Wyll awake and dancing in the middle of the night, especially since that's something he himself does as a devotee of Eilistraee - though generally his version's in the nude. He's still delighted to do some more traditional dancing in the moonlight.
